1720Lab is an independent art initiative founded in Duque de Caxias, Brazil, created to platform artists working outside the mainstream, with a focus on peripheral Brazilian artists and diasporic narratives. Working in collaboration with partner venues, 1720Lab develops exhibitions, public programs, and publications that connect artists to wider audiences and contexts.

The Baixada Fluminense has historically been represented from the outside, often reduced to narrow narratives of violence and lack. Baixada, outras imagens brought together 16 artists and 6 filmmakers from the region to challenge that reduction, affirming local artistic production as memory, authorship, and critical reflection on the territory itself. Over one month, the exhibition was accompanied by 6 workshops and public programming.
